Independent Study-Specialist Practice (15 credit module)

This module explores specialist knowledge, practice and attitudes that underpin an independent study by promoting assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation resulting in the enhancement of healthcare.  Negotiating with your manager and your module leader, you will identify your learning outcomes, how you are going to meet them and how you are going to present your assessed work. You then spend the remainder of the module undertaking your study and writing up your work supported by an academic member of the module team.

In addition, as part of the independent contracted learning you will develop an area of study that reflects the specialist focus of your independent study. You will be required to negotiate individual tutorials with the module leader to discuss the learning outcomes of the module. The content for this module will be influenced by your choice of topic to study. You will be required to critically examine a topic independently. It is anticipated that the module will provide the opportunity to critically examine an issue which is relevant to your current practice. Critical analysis of professional practice is also encouraged using a national and / or international perspective.
